Omnicell is currently hiring a Reliability Engineer III to work at our Waukegan, IL facility. The Reliability Engineer III will report to the Manager Hardware Test Engineering and will work cross-functionally to drive a better understanding of Omnicell products utilization and failures. It will be the responsibility of the reliability engineer to collect, review, and drive conclusions on product failures by utilizing physical and analytical data from returned customer parts. The reliability engineer will work cross-functionally as part of the Omnicell team to drive understanding of these failure modes to support corrective action generation, as well as support decisions across the business by utilizing advanced analytical techniques.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform root cause analysis of returned failed components for complex medical device equipment. Link physical evidence of failures to manufacturing records, service records, and operational performance history.

  • Develop procedures around handling and analysis of returned components. Monitor field quality data and associated metrics such as failure rates and MTBF.

  • Simultaneously analyze multiple data sources to identify patterns in similar failure events, leading to the recognition of early indicators of failure and prognostic capabilities to prevent field failures.

  • Manage communication of progress and conclusions in root cause investigations. Prepare reports for stakeholders in order to support prompt generation of non-conformance reports, and corrective actions to resolve issues in a clear and focused manner.

  • Work with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Service, Technical Assistance Center, and Supply Chain) to improve and scale Root Cause Failure Analysis capabilities and Corrective Actions.

  • Publish Failure Analysis Reports and Corrective Action Activities.

  • Drive and implement learnings from RMA/FA into Manufacturing, Engineering, and Support Teams.

  • Generate and maintain reliability and life cycle models for returned hardware to support inventory control, hardware design, and hardware validation teams.

  • Oversee the setup of new products and components into Failure Analysis Operations.

  • Maintain a clean and safe laboratory setting at all times.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Experienced in applying problem-solving tools including root cause analysis, statistical tools and processes, and hardware reliability modeling techniques.

  • Detail-oriented, independent and able to adjust to changing priorities.

  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong customer communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).

  • Knowledge of system architecture or component design.

  • Must be able to operate (or learn to operate) various types of test equipment

  • Knowledge of hardware interfaces.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in mechanical and/or electrical engineering field of study

  • 5 years of experience in root cause analysis.

  • Demonstrated experience evaluating, qualifying and managing failure analysis to ensure timely, complete and thorough analysis.

  • Working experience hardware interfaces

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS degree in mechanical and/or electrical engineering field of study

  • Familiar with analysis techniques such as microscopy, SEM, spectroscopic analysis, and surface analysis.

  • Experience with:

  • SAP and SAP Cloud for Customer systems.

  • multiple service management systems.

  • Working experience with:

  • retrieving and aggregating data from multiple systems to for reporting and analysis using SQL Queries.

  • Excel functions, macros, and pivot tables.

  • large data sets using Excel, Python, or R.

  • Weibull modeling techniques.

  • Familiarity with Reliasoft Weibull++ and JMP applications.

  • Green Belt, Black Belt, and/or experience with data analysis techniques that may include.

  • Statistical Process Control
